Talladega Alabama Historic District

Talladega Alabama’s Historic District includes the County Court House, which was built in 1836; it’s the oldest functioning Court House in the State. On May 11, 1912 the Clock tower in the Court House was destroyed by a tornado and March 13, 1925 a fire severely damaged the building. When it was rebuilt, the east and west entrances were enclosed and a Seth Thomas Clock was installed in the Clock Tower.
The City of Talladega itself was incorporated in 1835 and the Square became the most popular spot in town. Other Historic places located in the Talladega Court House Square are the Henderson Drug Store-1847, the Isbell Bank-1869, the First City Hall-1892, the Federal Post Office-1912- and the Ritz Theatre-1936.
The Silk Stocking Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 13, 1979. Some of the architectural styles include the Queen Anne and other late Victorian types, Classical Revival, American Craftsman, and Colonial Revival. The Silk Stocking District encompasses 113 acres.
We had a wonderful time exploring this Historic District and seeing all the beautiful homes.
