Famous House in Rome Georgia

This beautiful Victorian was the Claremont House, a Bed and Breakfast in Historic Rome, Georgia. It was also the Creel House in STRANGER THINGS on Netflix, Season 4. Now it’s a private residence in the Historic District.

It was built in the Gothic Victorian architecture style by Col. Hamilton Yancey in 1882. This House also has Second Empire architecture. The second empire style began in France during the reign of Napoleon lll (1852-70). The style was spread to England and the United States by exhibitions in Paris that many people attended in 1855 and 1867. The signature feature of second empire is the use of a mansard roof: a dual pitched hipped roof with a steep lower slope. This allowed for more living space beneath the roof and usually had gorgeous dormer windows to light up the interior rooms.

I went back to photograph this house and I hardly recognized it. It has been completely transformed since the filming of Stranger Things and is occupied in the Historic District. This house has had many incarnations. Nest time I’m in the area I’ll get and updated picture to post on this blog.
