Stunning Victorian located on Main Street

Welcome to Scotland Neck, North Carolina. This is the Gilliam-Pritchard-Leggett House located on Main Street. While exploring Eastern North Carolina we stopped in this small town for a break and found a pavillion in the park. My friend had made a picnic lunch and it was nice to relax and enjoy the Historic District. Coming across this house we were a little confused about the purple door but later when I saw a picture of this house with purple wisteria brightly covering an arbor along the driveway and sidewalk, I decided that must’ve been the inspiration.

This Victorian Italianate home has two stories and was originally built in 1863. Not only does it have a delightful front porch but it has a kitchen porch too. Exterior details include high gable flanked by a molded cornice below the larger central gable, three-bay facade, front six panel door with transom, one-story with hipped roof. The backyard extends to Church Street so there are two entrances to the home. It also has a carriage house and is located in the Scotland Neck Historic District in Halifax County, North Carolina. Other styles of architecture you can see in this area are Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival and Federal.

We spent a lovely day exploring this town and since it was my first time there, it was even more enjoyable. It’s always fun to see new places.
