Pastoral Farmhouse in the Mountains of N.C.

This is The Duval- Revis House Circa 1890, Macon County, North Carolina.

When I talked to the woman who owns this old Farmhouse she told me her late Husband was born here. She owns the property and the working cattle farm that surrounds this wonderful home. She’s not interested in selling the house because she doesn’t want to divide up the property. Usually these houses become too costly to restore so they sit quietly as the world around them changes. They are absolutely a target for vandals. Some people don’t understand why we try to keep these locations private but if they saw what happens when the wrong people tear apart an abandoned house looking for architectural salvage they would hopefully understand.

This Macon County house is located in North Carolina’s Mountain Region. The land here is rich with minerals and gemstones. Macon County was originally part of the vast territory of the Cherokee Indians. The Indians suffered a giant defeat under Colonel James Grant at the village of Etchoe, outside of Franklin, NC. The Tallulah Falls Railroad came into Franklin North Carolina in 1907 thru 1962. Macon county has a historical museum and a Scottish Tartans Museum celebrating this areas Scottish heritage. The Museum is the only one of it’s kind in the United States and is a direct extension of the Scottish Tartans Society in Keith, Scotland.
